I made an facinator for a wedding recently and using a net material as the base, I was unable to get blue, so bought white instead and then used my darkest blue of my promarkers and coloured in the net, I did not waste any ink as I held the material up in the air and then brushed the promarker over twice to get a good colour, let it dry and then constructed my facinator. I managed to find a band with a blue/grey flower and feathers, added some navy ribbon and a few clear gems on the grey leaves, secured it altogether with a needle and thread. I then wore it to the wedding, matching the facinator to my dress colour. I now have a taste of making these little things and would love to do a course to learn how to make hats and facinators professionally!
